Food safety refers to the precautions that food handlers should take when preparing, cooking, packaging, storing, and delivering food. Whether you are cooking at home for yourself or for your family, or working as part of a food service staff or the owner at a food business, you must to be knowledgeable and trained on the proper steps of this responsibility. Illnesses caused by food poisoning can be severe and can be life-threatening.
Products with a "best before" date have a longer shelf life. This date doesn't represent the safety of the product, but the quality of it. After the stated date, this product is safe to consume but will have a lower quality. You can learn how to distinguish between expiry dates, storage, and food preparation in my food safety training service.
Your fridge's temperature should be set to at least 4.44°C, and raw foods should be stored separately on the bottom shelf away from cooked and ready-to-eat foods.
It is critical to understand that you should never taste foods if you are unsure about their safety. In case of a power outage, foods stored in the fridge for no longer than 4 hours while the fridge door is closed are safe to consume.
